Printed signatures of the registrars, signed ni ink by the clerk, embossed seal. A truly one of a kind document, 8x13, folds, 100% original, not copied or a facsimile, else a fine example worthy of framing. I have decided to sell my extensive collection of musical and entertainment autographs mostly stars that claimed their fame from the 1920s through the 1960s many hard to find. Please check my listings over the next several months for new daily listings. George michael cohan (july 3, 1878 november 5, 1942) was a united states entertainer, playwright, composer, lyricist, actor, singer, dancer, director, and producer of irish descent. Known as the man who owned broadway in the decade before world war i, he is considered the father of american musical comedy. Cohan's first broadway musical, the governor's son (1901), was a near miss. It was an expanded version of one his vaudeville sketches, involving the comic misadventures of several guests at a country resort a woman (josie) in search of her runaway husband, two older battling newlyweds (jerry and nellie), and a vivacious girl (ethel) competing with a widow for the attentions of a governor's son (george - of course). Poor broadway reviews sent the governor's son packing after an unimpressive 32 performances. However, provincial audiences deilghted in this show's simple, wholesome humor. The cohans trouped it around the country for two profitable years.
